Ergonomics case study
Absenteeism within a After Market Parts Warehouse
Supply of car parts to the after sales market across Europe had seen a rise in absenteeism during
high volume sales. We were requested to visit the warehouse and support in the investigations due to our ergonomic
systems specialist knowledge.
Warehouse Situation
• Increased Absence due to Upper Limb Disorders (ULD's) during high sales volume, making
dispatch targets difficult to maintain.
• Lean systems approach established pre our involvement.
• Clear Identification of concern area's and injury records established.
Our Measures
• "Ergonomics Introduction" Training given to the management team.
• Using Already collected data for focus areas, use Ergonomic audit tools
to coach deeper understanding of possible ULD causation and countermeasures.
• Establish in-house Ergonomic awareness training for staff.
• Improve supervisor / staff communication on ULD management.
Achievements
1) Reduction in absence being established
2) Improved warehouse processes though Ergonomic Audit tools.
3) Supervisor / member man management improved moral.
4) Reduced H&S Reporting.
